A practical swap for desert yards
Florence sits on the desert edge of Pinal County, and natural grass here fights heat, alkaline soil and wind most of the year. Many homes in Anthem at Merrill Ranch were built with small grass areas that are hard to keep green without heavy watering.
Replacing those patches with good-quality synthetic turf removes mowing, overseeding and most irrigation for that area, while keeping a green space by the patio.
Retirees, grandkids and pets
A lot of Florence homeowners want a yard that looks good with little upkeep: a small lawn for grandkids or a dog, with no mower to store. Pet turf with a permeable backing and good infill handles that well and rinses clean.
Wind-blown dust and debris are a fact of life here, so plan on an occasional blow-off or rinse. A stiff broom keeps fibers standing upright in high-traffic spots.
What to ask your installer
- How irrigation in the turf area will be capped or converted to drip for nearby plants.
- What edging will hold the turf against wind.
- Whether the base is graded away from the house foundation.
- Expected timeline; most yards are installed in a day or two.
