Small yards that work hard
Many Gilbert homes have compact backyards with a pool, a patio and a strip of grass that's hard to keep alive between the pool deck and the block wall. Turf works well in those tight spaces: no mower to squeeze through the gate, no sprinkler overspray on the pool deck and no mud tracked inside.
Side yards are another common project. They're shaded part of the day, get little traffic and rarely grow good grass, but turf makes them usable for dog runs or storage paths.
Around pools
Turf next to a pool needs good drainage and a product that holds up to splash and pool chemicals. A properly graded base moves water away from the deck and the house.
Some Gilbert homeowners mix turf with pavers or travertine, using turf for lounging and play and hardscape for walkways and furniture.
Gilbert project tips
- Confirm HOA approval before install if your community requires it.
- Ask about water conservation rebates; some East Valley cities have offered grass-removal programs, so check what Gilbert currently offers before you start.
- Measure gate widths so equipment and turf rolls can get to the backyard.
- Ask how seams will be placed so they aren't visible from the patio.
